Summary: A sustainable situation is one that can continue. Examples of sustainability include an environment that can maintain a certain level of biodiversity, or an economy that can provide a certain percentage of employment while maintaining a reasonable level of profit for companies. Today, the term sustainability usually refers to maintaining or improving the health of the planet in order that humans, other animals, plants, and entire ecosystems can survive into the future. There is also debate as to whether current practices aid or hinder this kind of sustainability. This entry shows you where to find information about sustainability in New Zealand.
