An exhibition by Margaret Hansen, Tairāwhiti Museum, Te Whare Taonga o Tairāwhiti, Gisborne, New Zealand, November, 2024.Published for the opening of the exhibition at Tairāwhiti Museum, showing 22 November 2024-30 March 2025.
Summary: Margaret Hansen paints and writes from Makorori Beach in Te Tairāwhiti, the East Coast of New Zealand's North Island. The exhibition and book were conceived as a simple idea - to honour the family place of her two aunties who were Catholic nuns. However, it grew into compelling research as she explored the rich stories of their lives and considered their influence and that of the Catholic Church in her family's life, history and in her personal life. Her reflections explore the nature of portraiture, both personal and political. (Publisher)
