Summary: English translation of the graphic fantasy novel, in Maori and for young adults, set in pre-European times. Meariki is a captive of Ngai Kuwai. Her tasks are to serve the wishes of Te Mihiau, the rangatira, and to protect Hinamuru, the puhi of the iwi. When Hineamuru is kidnapped by a wizard, it is up to Meariki to rescue her. Meariki and Pehi (Hineamuru's sweetheart) tread a dangerous path. On the way they meet strange beings, both good and evil.
